Thematic Areas
Energy, Natural resources, environmental pollution and climate action.
The Energy, Natural resources, environmental pollution and climate action (EENRM) thematic work aims to strengthen the capacity of communities to have a voice in decision making in relation to planning and design of conservation initiatives affecting them and also assist such communities to
adjust to the vagaries of climate variability. Where poverty is seen as an underlying risk, the climate becomes either a magnifier and in many cases a multiplier, of existing underlying causes of risk and increasing dependence of communities on humanitarian aid.
We work in partnership with local people and communities to develop responses to climate change that are conflict sensitive and grounded in their understanding and experience.
We also work with communities and partners to generate knowledge and analysis on the interconnection between climate change, livelihoods, conflict and gender to inform and develop more effective strategies for sustainable livelihoods, environmental justice, conflict prevention and peace building.
The management of land and resource can also be a tool for sustainable livelihoods and peace building in itself, where traditional avenues for conflict resolution have become stuck.
We are working together with communities to predict and respond to natural and man-made disasters in helping to build local response capacity and resilience among communities. We work together with rural women and the local communities to shift from the current energy system that is characterized by negative impacts, sometimes severe to renewable energy alternatives that are affordable, accessible and friendly to women health and the environment.
We also stand in solidarity with local women in the struggle for their rights to land and natural resources.
